David Shaw CBE Expand David Shaw concluded his military career as the Major General commanding 2nd Division and Governor of Edinburgh Castle in 2012. He is co-founder of the veterans’ charity AF&V Launchpad Ltd and has been Chair of Trustees from 2013 to 2017; he resigned as a Trustee and became CEO in January 2017. He has a significant background in change management and public relations, and among other appointments, he was Director of the Army's Media and Communication. David was awarded the CBE in 2012 for services to the Army and was nominated as a Prime Minister's Point of Light in 2017. He is now a Director of Unicorn ARC Ltd and a Visiting Professor in Leadership and Communication at the Aberdeen Business School.
Dr Philip Mixer QVRM DL Expand For the past 30 years, Philip Mixer has successfully combined a career as a full time General Practitioner in a Yorkshire market town where he is the senior partner, with a career in the Army Reserve, culminating in his appointment as Deputy Director of Army Medical Services in the rank of Brigadier. His medical interests include teaching and training and within his practice he heads an Occupational Health Consultancy. In addition he has held a part time judicial appointment within the Tribunal Service and was recently appointed to the War Pensions & Armed Forces Compensation Chamber (WPAFCC). He has been fortunate in being recognised for his services with appointment as an Honorary Physician to her Majesty the Queen, a Deputy Lieutenant in the East Riding of Yorkshire and receiving the Queen’s Volunteer Reserve Medal.
Ken McMillan MBE Expand Ken McMillan joined as a soldier at 17 and then rose through the ranks to become a commissioned officer in 2006, having served in all major conflicts since the Falklands War. In October 2009 and after 25 years' service Ken left the Regular Army and then, in partnership with Nick Tubbs, he set up AFV Estates Ltd and the veterans’ charity AF&V Launchpad Ltd. Ken was awarded the MBE in 1998 for services to the Army and was appointed a Prime Minister's "Point of Light" in 2017. He continues to serve as a Major in the Army Reserves, most recently in the role of Battery Commander of 207 (City of Glasgow) Battery with 105th Regiment, Royal Artillery. He is currently deployed to the British Army Training Unit in Suffield, Canada.
Lucy Perriam Expand Lucy Perriam was educated in Newcastle and graduated from Girton College Cambridge in 1985. She worked for two years as an account manager for J Walter Thompson Advertising in London. She became one of the first TA Public Information Officers, before being commissioned as a full time officer into the WRAC. She came top of her Sandhurst course. Following a series of postings, including Adjutant of the HQ Signals Regiment in Berlin, she retired and worked for several years in Primary schools in East Lothian, as well as bringing up her family. Since 2008 she has been employed as a private PA in Edinburgh, has been a volunteer member of the Children’s Panel. In 2013 she trained as a mentor with homeless charity The Rock Trust. She became a Trustee of Launchpad in 2016.
Nicholas Tubbs Expand Nicholas Tubbs has been working continuously in the property industry since 1979, after turning down an Army Scholarship to attend university. In 1988 Nicholas was appointed Chief Executive of Stickley and Kent Ltd, becoming the country’s youngest Chief Executive, before selling the company and setting up his own property development business. In 2010 and together with Ken McMillan, Nicholas formed AFV Estates Ltd and then in 2013 he co-founded AF&V Launchpad Ltd, a veterans’ charity. Nicholas remains a Director of AFV Estates Ltd and a Trustee of Launchpad; in January 2017 he took over as Chair of the trustees of Launchpad.
Richard Dixon-Warren Expand Richard Dixon-Warren was appointed a Launchpad Trustee in May 2017 following the completion of 40 years’ service in the Army. Born and bred in Africa, Richard served across the globe on operations, garrison and training duties, and exchange and loan service. In 2003, he became one of the first Joint Regional Liaison Officers, a post created after ‘9/11’ to provide a military focal point in each UK region to represent the Armed Forces as the lead for the Defence contribution to resilience. Richard is adjusting to life outside the Army and enjoying the freedom and challenges this brings. Whilst considering options for his next career, he continues to sit on the Lincolnshire Committee of the Army Benevolent Fund – The Soldiers’ Charity, is a Parish Councillor and occasionally chairs his local Neighbourhood Police Panel.
Simon Bell QVRM Expand Simon Bell has been a businessman with marketing specialisation and expertise from consumer goods, banking and property investment as well as also having served in the Army Reserve for over 32 years attaining the rank of Brigadier. As a Trustee with Launchpad his role is to support the executive team delivering brilliant and caring support to Launchpad's armed forces' veterans. Simon lived in Staffordshire, is a member of the Mercian Regiment Council, Chairman of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst Internal Audit Panel and Chairman of the Landscapes and Memorials Committee at the National Memorial Arboretum.
